I wrote this in 1991 after the first Persian Gulf War. The tune is my way of reminding us all that democracy can die and be replaced by repression.
The students listened to the music without knowing the title, and were asked to think about what the title could be based on the sound and feel of the music.
"It sounds like a protest." "The sound of freedom." "An African-American person and a causian person fighting." "People coming together, working together as a community."
These student quotes and more were part of a marvelous exchange of ideas with over 100 6th graders.
