New Directions in 2011
Posted on March 19, 2011 with 0 commentsAs I write this, Japan is suffering through the aftermath of the earthquake, tsunami, and nuclear meltdowns that threaten to bring down the 3rd largest economy in the world. Let's hope they can get the nuke plants contained and rebuild their economy as well as recover some how from such devastating human loss.
The world economic downturn, recession, 2nd depression, hard times, of the last couple years has reduced my musical working life to near zero. I've responded by focusing my practice on classical music and pure technique in order to prepare for whatever may come my way in the future. I've also recommitted myself to a career in education. In the last year I have renewed my music teaching credential, acquired a multiple subject general education credential, and started a new part-time teaching job, my first since 2001.
I am the 3rd through 8th grade music teacher at Venetia Valley School in San Rafael, a public k-8 school. I started on January 31st of this year. I teach general music to 3rd, 4th, & 5th graders and concert band to 6th, 7th, & 8th graders. I am very grateful for this position, and the opportunity to help young people learn music as a tool for enhancing all learning and for its own sake.
